There is a 23% chance that in every office you work in, with every job you change, there is at least one woman who will speak with a voice that sounds like train wheels scraping rust off a train track. For me this has been a 100% success rate over the past two jobs, in two different countries.
And despite wild gesticulations, subtle hints, loud and tactless coughing whilst holding my ears and shaking my head like Stevie Wonder, it does not stop. She continues to drive her timbre through my skull, one millimeter at a time, piercing the innards of my brains with that steady, annoyed and shrill pitch that bleeds the air from all the cubicles in this small office space.
The next time we meet, please speak quietly. There's no telling what I may do to you if you produce a sound that's anything but soft. But then again, after a few weeks here, I might not be able to hear anything, ever again.
